Assignment 8-Solving the Problem

I previously identified the unmet need of all of the various consumers who, for different reasons, are concerned with what cosmetic/hygiene products they are using on their body but find that the natural options are not super widely available and come at a higher cost.

My solution to this problem is a manufacturing business that distributes to consumers online at a lower cost than in store. This company would not have a storefront but would have tons of natural ingredients on hand, and customers can customize their products on the website to create any product they'd like. The website would also show information for each ingredient to let customers know what it's best for and what other ingredients it works well with. For example, if I wanted a moisturizer that will not treat acne, but just maintain moisturized, glowing skin and safe to use multiple times a day, I would go on the website and see information that vitamin C nourishes skin to give it a soft glow, while jojoba oil is anti-fungal and moisturizing. The website would recommend a base for each product and allow consumers to pick and choose what else they would like to add. While this mass-customization would seemingly increase costs, there is no middle man and consumers get products right to their door, so many logistics costs would decrease. Later on in this venture, the most popular combinations could be sold in storefronts. Also, these products could be mass-produced and offered at a lower price than the specifically customized products. The cost would be able to be minimized by only having set ingredients that are mixed and matched, so they would be on hand in large quantities and therefore be cheaper.

  1. McKenna,

I loved this idea because we are in a day of age where we know more about the chemicals that are in our products and how they harm/help our bodies, this has caused people to look for brands that are all natural, yet they are not offered everywhere. If your websites prices were cheaper than a storefront, and customized to the customer you would definitely meet a huge need.

  2. Hi McKenna! I really like this idea. People these days are very health conscious and prefer to use and eat items that they know exactly what's inside. I think that this website would be a huge it. Online shopping is bigger now than ever. The only concern is people may be hesitant to buy the products because they will not know how they are until there are enough reviews. I think that this would work and help a large group of people meet an unmet need.

  3. Hi McKenna, this is a great idea and near and dear to my heart as I suffer from sensitive skin. I have to pick the most organic products I can find. The link to what I use is here: https://biossance.com/collections/all/products/love-your-face Since I’m on a tight budget, I get this kit and it lasts me quite a while. The caveat is it’s expensive. So, I use every drop and savor it. So far, no sensitivities. I think you are on the right path for great alternatives to harmful ingredients.
